Important Information
Factory reset
If static discharge or other electronic interference causes the chess computer to malfunction, press the recessed RESET key on the underside or rear of the board. A factory reset deletes saved data and restores the device to its original settings.
After pressing RESET, manually turn the device off and restart it. The reset is successful when the board starts again and the LEDs display the letter “F”.
Factory reset
Press the recessed RESET key. This is intended for a device that is unresponsive or affected by electrical interference and may delete all saved data.
Clear saved Wi-Fi
Use the chessboard button appropriate for the installed firmware. This is part of network troubleshooting and is explained in the App & Wi-Fi Connection section.
Safety and compliance
The device is not designed to be immune to electrostatic discharge, strong electromagnetic radiation, or every source of electrical interference. The reset control is provided so the unit can be returned to normal operation after a non-critical failure.
Keep this manual for future reference. The product includes small parts and must be disposed of through an appropriate collection or recycling point at the end of its service life.

Chapter 1
Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the VONSET L6—your always-ready chess partner for play, practice, and improvement.
The L6 combines a sensor chessboard, circular LED move guidance, adaptive computer play, and an E-ink screen. The board detects the pieces directly, so you can focus on the position instead of repeatedly looking at a separate display.
Sensor board
Move the pieces as you would on a traditional chessboard. The L6 detects lifts, placements, legal moves, and take-backs.
LED guidance
Circular LEDs indicate legal moves, computer moves, and move-quality guidance using different colors.
E-ink screen
Use the screen to change settings, review notation, view the board, receive hints, and see position evaluations.

Connect the Chessboard to Wi-Fi and the Latest App
If your L6 Pro cannot connect to the latest app, update the chessboard firmware first. Complete the legacy-app process, install every available firmware update, and then configure the updated board in the latest app.
Firmware update required: Depending on the software branch shown for your chessboard, update it if the current version is below 2.5.0 or below 3.5.0. If you are unsure which branch applies, install the latest available firmware.

Chapter 4
Start Playing Chess
Begin a game
Fully charge the battery before first use. Press ON/OFF to start the L6. During startup, the device beeps, the LEDs illuminate, and the pieces are detected. Place all pieces in the standard starting position and make the first move.
By default, the player uses White and L6 uses Black. You do not need to press the squares; move the pieces naturally.
LED move guidance
Red
Indicates a poor or dangerous move and is also used for illegal-move feedback.
Green
Indicates a normal or acceptable move.
Blue
Indicates a stronger or better choice.
When L6 makes a move, the starting and destination squares flash alternately. Move the indicated piece for L6; the lights stop and it becomes your turn.
Illegal moves and move-detection problems
If a move is illegal, the destination square lights red, a beep may sound, and the device announces “Move illegal”. Return the piece to its original square or make a legal move.
Three question marks may appear if you failed to answer a check, moved a piece contrary to its movement rules, or placed the piece where the sensor cannot detect it. Center the piece on the destination square.
If a legal move is not detected, lift the piece and place it again. You may also return it to the original square and repeat the move.
Take back moves
Return the most recently moved piece to its previous square, then continue reversing moves one at a time. L6 automatically adjusts the move list and board position. Take-back is not available during an unfinished castling, en passant, or pawn-promotion sequence.
Hints and alternative moves
Press the Hint/Interrupt button to request a recommended move. You may still choose another legal move.
Castling and pawn promotion
Short castling is shown as 0-0 and long castling as 0-0-0. Move the King first, then the Rook.
When a pawn reaches the opposite side, use Up and Down to select a promotion piece and press OK to confirm. If no piece is selected, L6 assumes promotion to a Queen.
Ending and resuming a game
The display reports checkmate, stalemate, or draw. A win is shown as 1-0 or 0-1, and a draw as ½-½. To start a new game, return all pieces to the starting position. To adjourn a game, power the L6 off normally; after restart, replace the pieces as shown on the display and continue.
Chapter 5
Game Mode
Select a mode with Up or Down, confirm with OK, and return with Back. Changing mode during a game begins a new game.
Training
Designed for practice and improvement. Training supports the full level range and learning-oriented guidance.
Match
Simulates a tournament-style game with timing and rule enforcement. Lighting, prompts, and sound may be limited by default.
Human
Supports two players using the physical board, with legal-move detection, game records, take-back, and replay.
Score
L6 evaluates each move and provides a game score. The evaluation considers material, piece activity, pawn structure, and tactical possibilities—not material count alone.
Chapter 6
Game Time
The game timer is off by default. Open the menu, choose Game time, select a time, and confirm with OK. Available times are 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes per player.
The player's clock starts after the first move. L6's clock counts down while the computer thinks; the player's clock resumes after the indicated computer move is made on the board. A game may continue even if a clock reaches 0:00:00.
Chapter 7

Chapter 8
Review the Game
L6 stores replay data for up to three completed games. Open Review to select a game. The upper area shows the position; the lower area shows the move list and score for each move.
Use Up and Down to move through the game. During replay, press Play/Pause on a selected position to begin playing from that point. A game started from replay is not stored as a new review record.
Chapter 9
Puzzle
The L6 includes 1,000 puzzle exercises. Select Puzzle from the main menu, choose an index with Up or Down, and press OK.
The display shows the required position and the corresponding board lights help you place the pieces. After setup, the voice announces whether White or Black moves. An incorrect answer produces a beep and a red destination-square light.
Chapter 10
Start from a Position / Set Pieces
Use Setup → Set pieces to analyze an interesting position, continue from a saved idea, or create a puzzle. Place White's pieces first, then Black's pieces. If a piece is placed incorrectly, remove it and place it again.
After the position is complete, press OK and set:
Color to move
Select White or Black as the side that moves first.
Bot color
Select whether L6 plays White or Black.
Position validation: Include exactly one King of each color, do not place pawns on the first or eighth rank, avoid impossible piece counts, ensure the side-to-move setting is legal, and do not create an immediately impossible or already-completed position.
Chapter 11

After approximately 30 minutes without activity, the L6 enters sleep mode. If a game is in progress, the position is saved so it can be restored after the device is turned on again.
If the device stops responding: Use the recessed RESET key to restore the unit. A factory reset may delete stored data, so use it only when normal power-off does not work.
Chapter 14
Maintenance and Support
Handle the L6 carefully and keep it away from excessive moisture, impact, electromagnetic interference, and static discharge. Clean the board with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning fluids.
